In need of a Supervisor?
Supervision Basics
Please read the following carefully:
What are the basics?
When under supervision, you typically meet with your supervisor 4 hours per month, equaling a two hour session twice per month. All sessions are held via Zoom and can be arranged in person, when applicable. You can live anywhere in Texas and participate in supervision. You must complete 100 hours of supervision in no less than 24 months (2 years), and you cannot take longer than 48 months (4 years) to complete supervision. During your time in supervision you must be employed and working, at least, 30 hours per week to complete the supervision process within the two years. If you are working part time you are required to complete one-hour of supervision per 40 hours, typically 2-3 supervision hours per month. Three thousand total work hours are required before you can apply to sit for the licensing exam.
What to expect?
When I completed my supervision we met in a group format. Social Work is a field where networking is essential. Group supervision allows you to connect with fellow social work peers and to hear their feedback and perspectives on cases and ethical dilemmas. Each group member will present a case or ethical dilemma and receive feedback from me and the group. Supervision will include a focus on understanding of the DSM-V, therapeutic modalities, and medications.
Does my job quality for clinical supervision?
The board has determined that if you assess, diagnose, and treat mental health or substance use issues using the DSM-V criteria, you are eligible for LCSW Supervision. Brittany, what if I don’t diagnose? No worries, there is typically another professional (physician, psychiatrist, or other licensed professional) who is formally diagnosing clients. If you use a diagnostic skill set or screening tools, when working with clients, you are fulfilling this requirement. Do you have regular client or patient interactions and use clinical skills? If so, you probably meet supervision criteria.
Ready to get started?
You have a full time job, you practice in a setting that requires you to use clinical skills, so what’s the next step? We will complete a supervision agreement and the clinical supervision plan. I will ask you to email your supervisor, and copy me on the email, informing them you have begun LCSW supervision with me. They should know, and agree, that you will be sharing details about clients in supervision.
You will pay $50 per hour of supervision by credit card, which is due up front at time of scheduling. The rates are the same for individual and group supervision. If you are interested, please complete a Contact Us form.
Supervision may begin up to 30 days before the contract is submitted for approval.
How do I keep track of everything?
I recommend you create a binder or computer folder for all supervision documents. You are responsible for tracking hours, I suggest creating an excel spreadsheet, I will have one for my records. What if I get audited? I have never heard of this happening, but it is better to be prepared, just incase.
Below is the paperwork you will need to complete and email back to me. Since you are completing supervision separate from your job, copy me on an email to your boss, and keep a copy for your records. You do not need to send any documentation to the board at this time.
